BMW is working on a new i8. The special version will celebrate 100 years since the birth of the Bavarian manufacturer. The centenary will be celebrated next year, and the special BMW i8 will be the main attraction.
The car, known internally as the M100, is expected to be more powerful. Under the futuristic design, BMW will offer a hybrid system that includes either a 2.0 liter twin-turbo, or a 3.0 liter twin-turbo. First will offer 320 hp, while the second will deliver 480 hp, which is more than on the current M4, who uses the same engine.
There will also be an electric motor with 110 hp, ready to help and reduce the fuel consumption in urban areas. The electric motor sends its power to the front wheels, making the i8S an all-wheel drive vehicle.
With this amount of power under the hood, BMW i8S is expected to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds. The top speed might be limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), as the production number also.
BMW will keep the exclusivity mark, producing it in small number, so that the owner feels it has a real privilege. A real privilege comes with a hefty price, as the new model will be 30% more expensive than the standard i8, being expected to cost around $175,000 USD.
