After its return in DTM Championship, BMW is ensuring that its brand awarness will grow significantly in the competition. The Munchen-based brand will use its M4 Coupe as a pace car during all stages of the competition. The performance model will have a special version for this, called M4 Coupe DTM.

Based on the standard version, the new M4 Coupe DTM Safety Car will lead the 23 DTM racing cars around the circuits. The first race will take place on the famous Nurburgring circuit, with M4 Coupe Safety Car ensuring the lead on 17th August.

To be sure that the car can keep the pace with the competition models, BMW used the completely new, 431-hp six-cylinder inline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology capable of generating a maximum torque of 550 NM.Along with a M double-clutch transmission, the BMW M4 Coupe DTM Safety Car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, declared: “Having decided to start the 2014 DTM season with a new challenger, in the form of the BMW M4 DTM, it was a logical step to have BMW M GmbH put together a BMW M4 Coupe DTM Safety Car. To lead the DTM field out in style, the safety car itself must also be extremely sporty. The BMW M4 Coupé certainly provided us with the basis to achieve this.”
