BMW has officially unveiled the 2016 BMW i8 Mirrorless concept at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Los Angeles. The new German concept features rearview cameras instead of the classic side mirrors which were mounted on aerodynamically optimized holders.

The 2016 BMW i8 Mirrorless concept also features a third rearview camera that was mounted on the upper edge of the rear windscreen. According to the German car manufacturer, the images of the three cameras are combined into a single one that is displayed on a high-resolution screen that was mounted instead of the traditional rearview mirror.

The use of the digital rearview mirror also enables warning signals to be displayed when appropriate. The driver will be warned of an approaching vehicle if he tries to change lanes.
