BMW has unveiled today the updated X5 eDrive Concept ahead of its official debut scheduled for next week at the 2014 New York Auto Show. The updated concept looks identical to the prototype seen in 2013 at the Frankfurt Moto Show but it features a series of detailed refinements.

On the outside, the German concept is featuring a Siverflake metallic paint with BMW i Blue accents. In addition, we see new roof rails and unique 21 inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the 2014 BMW X5 eDrive Concept has Ivory White leather upholstery, piano black trim, blue accents and "eDrive" lettering embossed on headrests. Furthermore, the German concept features blue ambient lighting, blue contrast stitching and a transparent cover that allows people to see the lithium-ion battery pack.

Under the hood, the 2014 BMW X5 eDrive Concept comes with a plug-in hybrid power train that is composed by a gasoline four cylinder 245 horsepower engine and a 95 horsepower electric motor. Under these conditions, the concept can sprint from stand still to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds.

More than that, the car can travel up to 30 kilometers on electricity alone at speed up to 120 km/h. According to BMW, the 2014 X5 eDrive Concept can consume less than 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers with CO2 emissions under 90 grams per kilometer.

The concept also has a BMW Driving Experience Control switch with three different modes: AUTO eDrive, which balances performance and efficiency, MAX eDrive, which is the pure EV mode and SAVE, which keeps the battery charged for use later in the trip.
