The German automaker tried to keep the official photos with the 2012
BMW M5 hidden for too long, so in the end they got leaked online along
with with a series of technical details before the company’s official
unveiling.
The new M5, which will premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, looks pretty much identical to the concept version
presented in Shanghai in April, featuring the same discrete lines, with
only a pair or sportier looking bumpers, larger wheels and a quad
exhaust system hinting at the fact that this is not a regular 5 Series.
According
to the latest reports, the 2012 BMW M5 will extract power from a V8
engine rated at 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque which will spin
the rear wheels through a dual-clutch transmission offered as standard.
Thanks
to this engine, which by the way packs an additional 5 HP when compared
to the X5M and the X6M, the 2012 BMW M5 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in
4.4 seconds.
As usual performance will come at a price, and in
this case the tag is expected to read 100,000 Euro, which means
approximately 145,000 USD.
