Another recent BMW targeted by Alpina was the diesel version 2012 BMW 5 Series. The car’s 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder common-rail engine featuring direct fuel injection, two turbochargers and variable turbine geometry is now capable of producing 350 HP (257 kW) between 4,000 and 4,200 rpm which means a 105 HP increase over the standard version.
What is also impressive is the fact that even though the 2012 BMW Alpina D5 Biturbo produces more power, consumption and emission figures remain almost unchanged. The Sedan returns 6.2-liters per 100 Km (45.6 mpg) and has CO2 levels of 165 g/Km, while the Touring consumes 6.5-litres/100 Km (43.5 mpg) and emits 172 g/Km of CO2.
The 2012 BMW Alpina D5 Biturbo comes with a SWITCH-TRONIC 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission that allows the car to be driven in Automatic Shift Mode (D), Sport Shift Mode (S) and Manual Shift Mode (M) ,and when it comes to performance, there are 5.2 seconds required to go from 0 to 100 Km/h and a top speed of 270 Km.h could be reached.
Apart from all the mechanical upgrades the 2012 BMW Alpina D5 Biturbo also features an enhanced chassis, high-performance brakes, Aplina’s classic multispoke design 20 inch alloys wrapped in non-run-flat MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT tyres plus a series of exterior elements that are both unique and also help reduce drag.
