Bentley has expanded its Continental GT and Continental GTC range with V8 models which will be shown for the first time at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January 2012.
The V8 engine found in this new versions promises an exceptional power-to-emissions ratio and is matched by a close-ratio 8-speed transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.
To get to the point, this new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 found in the Continental GT coupe and GTC convertible delivers 500 bhp (507PS / 373 kW) at 6000 rpm and 660Nm (487 lb ft) of peak torque between 1,700 and 5,000 rpm, figures which according to Bentley will enable sub 5 second 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 Km/h) acceleration times and a top speed of 180 mph (290 Km/h).
Due to technologies like direct injection and variable displacement the Bentley Continental GT V8 and the GTC V8 will also achieve impressive consumption and emission figures for this class, with the automaker only announcing the fact that these car will be able to cover 500 miles (800 Km) on a single gas tankat this point.
The Continental V8 models also come with energy recuperation via the charging system and are part of the automaker’s commitment of introducing a new powertrain that is 40 percent better in terms of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.
Visually, the Continental GT V8 and the GTC V8 are distinguished from the W12-engined models due to their black gloss matrix grille and lower grille mesh and the red enamel Bentley ‘B’ badge.
