Together with the second generation R8, Audi also unveiled the second installment of its electric supercar attempt. You guessed that right: it is the Audi R8 e-tron 2.0, also at the second generation.

Even if the previous model remained a prototype, with only ten units produced, Audi hopes that the new model can attract customers and become a series production car.

Audi Space Frame

As the standard R8, the e-tron version is based on the multimaterial Audi Space Frame, but the supporting structure was enhanced by a CFRP rear-section module comprising the luggage compartment. Thanks to targeted modifications to the outer shell and on the wheels, the Audi R8 e-tron achieves an aerodynamic drag coefficient (cd) value of 0.28.

R8 e-tron 2.0 Battery

The large T-shaped battery is structurally integrated into the centre tunnel and behind the occupant cell. In comparison to the first technology platform, the battery capacity has grown from 49 kWh to approximately 92 kWh, without changing the package. The R8 e-tron achieves an electric range of approximately 280 miles – a considerable improvement over the technology platform’s 133 miles.

Performance

The power is now 462 hp and the maximum torque 920 Nm. The R8 e-tron 2.0 accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to an electronically restricted top speed of 130 mph or 155 mph. Intelligent energy management and an electromechanical brake system enable high energy recuperation rates.
