The four rings automaker unveiled its latest technical study today in Shanghai – the Audi A3 e-Tron Concept. Even though at a first glance it resembles with the A Sedan Concept seen in Geneva earlier this year, the Audi A3 e-Tron runs on a totally different powertrain.
Instead of a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine developing 408 HP, the Audi A3 e-Tron extracts power from a 1.4-litre TFSI unit packing 211 horses and an electric motor that offers an additional 27 HP for a total system output of 238 horsepower.
The hybrid powertrain mentioned above is also making use of a lithium-ion battery pack placed behind the rear seats which offer a range of 34 miles (54 Km) and which can be recharged by the car’s energy recuperation system of at a regular power outlet.
The 1.4-litre TFSI plant sends power to the wheels via a 7-speed S tronic transmission, and according to the automaker, the Audi A3 e-Tron Concept is able to reach 100 Km/h from a stand still in 6.8 seconds, and can also hit a top speed of 231 Km/h.
In terms of design the Audi A3 e-Tron Concept features all the ‘traditional’ e-tronic elements, which mainly refer to the the grille, the alloys as well as the interior and exterior colours, while as far as dimensions, this hybrid sedan measures 4.44 m in length, 1.84 m in width and 1.39 m in height.
