This is Volvo's first million-seller. The 140 series was launched on 17 August, 1966, and now, half a century later the manufacturer has made a good decision to celebrate the anniversary of the model. Back in 1966, the 140 series has received a spectacular premiere in front of almost four hundred journalists at the Lorensberg function rooms in central Gothenburg, Sweden.

The production of the car (144 sedan) started two days after the official unveiling while the two-door 142 and the estate 145 joined the range in 1967 and 1968. As you may have read, all models had four-cylinder engines while the power was sent to the rear wheels.

The 140 series had a spacious interior and large windows that were combined in simple lines. In the 1970s, Volvo introduced the electronically-controlled fuel injection system for the 2.0-liter engine, producing 120 horsepower.

Three years later (1974), the 142, 144 and 145 production came to an end. 1,251,371 cars were assembled in eight years. The 140 series became the company’s first million-seller.
