The German car maker Volkswagen has announced that they will use the XL1 hybrid power train for the upcoming Up! Hybrid. The new city model is due to debut in two years.

As you know Volkswagen has announced that the XL1 will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will be the very economical model. The XL1 has a two-cylinder 0.8 liter TDI engine with 47 hp and a 27 hp electric motor powered by a 5.5 kWh battery.

The same setup will be seen in the Up! Hybrid and this means that the German city car will have a fuel consumption of approximately 1 liter per 100 kilometers. The battery pack will be mounted in the rear and will be charged during the braking. Because we are talking about a hybrid-plug-in model, you have to know that the upcoming Up! Hybrid can go in electric mode for approximately 30 miles.
