California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have rejected the Volkswagen Dieselgate fix proposal. According to both organizations, Volkswagen’s plan "fell short in several areas."

They have said that the VW’s proposed fix was "incomplete, substantially deficient and falls far short of meeting the legal requirements." As a result, Volkswagen need to come with another idea.

"Volkswagen made a decision to cheat on emissions tests and then tried to cover it up. The result is thousands of tons of nitrogen oxide that have harmed the health of Californians. Volkswagen needs to make it right", said CARB Chair Mary D. Nichols.

The rejection notice applies to the models equipped with the 2.0 liter TDI engine that were sold across US 2009 and 2015. On February 2nd, Volkswagen will also submit a fix for the 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine.
