Volkswagen has premiered the Amarok Canyon Concept in Geneva today, a vehicle customised for 'freestyle kayaking' that wants to illustrate just how versatile the Amarok pickup is.

"We are using this extreme concept to illustrate one of the many diverse uses of the Amarok. By tuning its design to an extreme sport, we are bringing the original DNA of the Amarok into focus".

The vehicle is taller (+40mm with the body lift kit, +85 mm when the big AT tyres are included) and wider than the regular version Amarok, plus it features a three-layer, bright orange paint finish, auxiliary headlights mounted on the roof, colour-contrasting underbody protection and two electrically deployed tread plates.

The tread plates retract when the vehicle is moving and were added in order to enable easy access inside the cabin.

Apart from sitting on tires size 275/65 R 18, the Amarok Canyon Concept also features wider wheel housings (+35 mm) and two carbon fiber kayaks which are securely mounted to the cargo floor thanks to two formed cut-outs with soft padding integrated into the floor.

At the interior the automaker has treated the Canyon Concept with a special colour scheme in combination with many details and new accents as well as with leather seats featuring two-tone styling and thee auxiliary instruments housed in a cowl in the cockpit.

The show vehicle features a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system and is equipped with a 2.0-litre TDI bi-turbo engine rated at 180 PS and 400 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 and 2,250 rpm.
