Bad news for Toyota owners, as a huge recall was announced today. The Japanese manufacturer issued a global voluntary recall that includes a total of 7.43 million vehicles. The problem? A friction fault inside an electric window switch that could cause smoke emissions due to a faulty applied grease.

The recall comes after almost 200 Toyota US owners reported smoke coming from the driver’s window switch. Same problem in Japan, where 39 owners were confronted with the same problem.

Toyota will recall various vehicles built during 2005 and 2010. In North America, the japanese manufacturer recalls 2.47 million affected units of the following models: Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia, Scion xB and xD.

On the Japanese market a total of 460.000 units will be recalled, including Vitza, Belta, Ractis, Auris and Corolla Rumion.
In Europe, Toyota will recall 1.39 millions of Yaris, Corolla, Auris, Camry and RAV4 models.
