Bad news for Toyota fans around the world. The Japanese manufacturer announced a recall of 2.77 million vehicles worldwide for steerinf and water pump problems.

The recall affects 496,000 vehicles in Europe, 670,000 vehicles in the United States and 1.5 million vehicles in Japan. More than half of the vehicles in the recall are in Japan, making this Toyota’s biggest single recall in its home market.

The recall covers certain Corolla compact models made from 2000 to 2006 and second-generation Prius cars made between 2004 and 2011.

The problem, which Toyota said had caused no accidents, will be fixed for free at every dealership. Ready to be repaired in just an hour, the problem will cost Toyota hundreds of millions of dollars and some reputation, considering that this is the carmaker’s second multimillion-car recall in a little more than a month.

Toyota recalled more than 10 million vehicles worldwide from 2009 to 2011.
