Today, on Toyota’s UK blog it was revealed that the Japanese company considered a four-door sedan and shooting brake versions of the sporty GT86.

Tetsuya Tada, the Toyota product chief is still hoping that someday these body versions will see the green light even though not all the Japanese brand bosses like this idea. He said that they were secretly working on the two body version of the GT86 but when the firm’s bosses found out they were like "What are you doing? Will you please focus on the coupe version."

Tetsuya Tada also added that one of the reasons why these two body versions were considered is because it would have helped Toyota to spread development costs across more models.

He said that this is the reason why the FT-86 Open Concept was unveiled in Geneva. The engineers and designers knew from the very beginning that the GT86 will get an open top-variant.
