Toyota GT 86 Unveiled

The wait is finally over ! Toyota has unveiled photos and details regarding the production version FT-86 during the weekend. Europe and Japan will get the car under a new name, the GT 86, and as you can notice, some of the more aggressive looking features seen on the concept have replaced with slightly modified structures in order to make the car more appealing to a broader range of consumers.

The GT 86 is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru, and as we already mentioned before, the car will have its global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show this week.

Measuring 4,240 mm in length, 1,285 mm in height and 2,570 mm in width the Toyota GT 86 is the most compact four seater available on the market today, with power extracted from a 2.0-litre flat-four cylinder engine featuring the D-4S injection technology, capable of producing 200 PS (197 bhp / 147 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque at 6,600 rpm.

Performance figures are not available at this moment, but we also know that the GT 86 sits just 475 mm above the ground, has a weight distribution ratio of 53:47 (front to rear) and uses a standard 6-speed manual gearbox to spin the rear wheels and transform power into motion.

Toyota says a 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters will also be available, plus the also comes fitted with a limited slip diff.

On the North American market the GT 86 will be sold under the Scion badge and will be called the FR-S, while a third variation of this car will be represented by the Subaru BRZ which will also make its appearance at this weeks Tokyo Motor Show.
