Yes we know that you know that Toyota Prius was the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle but the first hybrid car was launched a long time ago. It was 1896 when Armstrong Phaeton hybrid came to life. The car was made in only one unit and will go to auction on March 10th.
The hybrid powertrain of the Armstrong Phaeton hybrid model had a 6.5 liter 2 cylinder engine, an onboard battery and a dynamo flywheel. More than that, the car used a magnetic clutch and a semi-automatic three speed gearbox.
According to some sources, the Armstrong Phaeton hybrid had much torque it had a tendency to split the carriage wheels it drove on!
The Armstrong Phaeton will be auctioned at the Bonhams Amelia Island on March 10th and the specialists are estimating a price between $175,000-$275,000 (approx. £124,000-£194,000).
