Porsche has officially revealed their new limited edition racer – the 911 GT3 RS 4.0. As opposed to what yesterday’s leaked details mentioned, there will be 600 units Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 produced (instead of 500), each powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre 6-cylinder engine (the biggest engine fitted on a 911) which develops 500 HP (368 kW) @ 8,250 rpm and 460 Nm of torque @ 5,750 rpm.
If you do the math that means 125 HP (92 kW) per litre, so you know this car is all about extreme performance. Sold exclusively with a 6-speed manual sports transmission. the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 Km/h) in 3.9 seconds and can reach 124 mph (200 Km/h) in less than 12 seconds.
Its Nurburgring-Nordschleife lap time is 7:27 minutes, and all these figures are ‘fruit of meticulously coordinated details’. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 comes with various motor racing derived suspension components as well as a series of light weight equipment like bucket seats, carbon fiber front wings and bonnet, plastic rear windows, weight optimised floor mats etc. All these measures help the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 in tipping the scale at just 1,360 Kg (with a full tank), so if you do the math again, then you will see that is power to weight ratio is below 3 Kg per HP.
In order to highlight the link between the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 and motor racing, Stuttgart’s latest creation comes with a series of trademark characteristics like the wide track, the low center of gravity, large rear wing with adaptive side plates, the central twin exhaust pipes as well as the lateral front air deflection vanes.
Pricing for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will start at 178,596 Euro in Germany (including the 19 percent VAT) with sales expected to begin in July 2011.
