Among the British brands attending at this year’s Geneva Motor Show there is also Morgan who will exhibit the Plus E Concept in the Swiss capital.
The Plus E is an electric sportscar based on the Plus 8 which was designed in collaboration with British technology specialists, Zytek and Radshape, through which Morgan wants to test market reaction before possibly taking it into production.
The Morgan Plus E uses an electric motor capable of producing 160 bhp and 380 Nm of torque that is backed by a lithium ion battery. Interestingly the motor is linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox which will help in accelerating the car from 0 to 100 Km/h in 6.0 seconds and attain a top speed of 115 mph (185 Kmph).
Morgan operations director Steve Morris said that "We wanted to see how much fun you can have in an electric sportscar, so we have built one to help us find out," "The Plus E combines Morgan’s traditional look with high-technology
construction and a powertrain that delivers substantial torque instantly
at any speed. With the manual gearbox to increase both touring range
and driver involvement, it will be a fantastic car to drive."
As it talked about the Plus E’s manual transmission, Zytek Automotive managing director Neil Heslington explained that "A multi-speed transmission allows the motor to spend more time operating
in its sweet spot, where it uses energy more efficiently, particularly
at high road speeds," "It also allows us to provide lower gearing for rapid
acceleration and will make the car more engaging for keen drivers."
