More details regarding the German automaker who is working on developing the Mercedes GLC, which will enter the small premium SUV segment as a rival for the BMW X1.
Expected to debut in 2013 the Mercedes GLC will use the automaker’s new MFA (modular front architecture), the same platform on which the upcoming A Class anf B Class models will be based on, and even though no official statements have been made yet, Autocar thinks the new SUV will share some of its design cues with the BlueZero concept.
The Brits from Autocar also say that the Mercedes GLC will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard (6-speed dual clutch optional), will have a 20mm higher ground clearance than the B Class model, and will also benefit from added off-road capabilities.
In terms of motorisation the Mercedes GLC is expected to be offered with a 1.8-litre direct-injection petrol with two power grades (168 bhp on the GLC200 CGI and 201 bhp on the GLC250 CGI) and a number of diesels among which customers will find the Renault sourced 1.6-litre plant developing 120 bhp for the GLC180.
Daimler’s 2.1-litre diesel rated at 170 bhp and 204 bhp is also expected to be fitted in the GLC200 CDI and GLC250 CDI respectively.
