Mercedes-Benz has officially started production of the GLC Coupe model at its assembly plant in Bremen, Germany. The model is set to go on sale in the United States early next year and will come as a direct rival to the BMW X4 model.
In Bremen, Mercedes-Benz has 12.500 workers which are producing ten different models: C-Class Sedan, Coupe, and Estate, E-Class Coupe and Estate, GLC, SLC, and SL.
In order to improve the work, Mercedes-Benz has explained that the GLC Coupe production uses a new seating fixture that swings the worker, in “an ergonomically ideal position,” into the vehicle interior.
“With the start of production of the GLC Coupé, we are further expanding our SUV family as a key element in the Mercedes-Benz growth strategy. At the same time, we are strengthening the Bremen plant’s role as the main production site for the model series within our flexible and efficient production network. The team is doing a great job!”, said Markus Schafer, member of the divisional board Mercedes-Benz Cars, production and supply chain management.
