This year, on September 2nd, McLaren will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Yes, it’s been almost 50 years since Bruce McLaren started an automotive company that has forever changed the way we look at supercars.

The company will celebrate the event by using a 50th anniversary logo on everything from their shirts to the new MP4-28 Formula 1.

The brand certainly has much to celebrate in 2013 considering that in the last half century, McLaren has been creating a variety of high-performance models. McLaren’s first sports-racing car was the Group 7 M1, in 1963, and in 1966 they entered in the Formula One programmed.

McLaren also employed a number of notable drivers including Alain Prost, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna. More recently, McLaren has built supercars such as the F1, Mercedes SLR McLaren and the MP4-12C.

"McLaren’s history is long and storied, but McLaren’s legacy is harder to define – and that’s because it’s still being vividly written every day by the dedicated men and women who work at the McLaren Technology Centre." said McLaren’s executive chairman, Ron Dennis

"This is a book that’s still being written," Dennis continued, "and that, perhaps, is the greatest legacy of McLaren."
