Autocar has tested the funky looking Hyundai Veloster, the three door coupe which tries to compete against established rivals such as the Volkswagen Scirocco.
The Veloster comes fitted with a 1.6-litre invline-four cylynder engine producing 138 HP and 123 lb-ft of torque, which in this case is equipped with a 6-speed manual, but could also be ordered with a 6-speed automatic.
What does Autocar think about it ? Well even though Korean brands in general and Hyundais in particular, are no longer the cars you buy because you cannot afford anything else, with the company hitting the point where it is now more credible that many European and Japanese brands, its Veloster coupe is still far away from the class leading Scirocco.
Its main disadvantages are its steering and the overall driving experience it creates which lacks feel and bite, but then again the Veloster is 2000 GBP cheaper than the Scirrocco, so perhaps we should not expect anything more than what it offers for less than 18,000 GBP.
Overall the Hyundai Veloster is a capable and credible car which should be a successful competitor in the compact coupe segment also due to its looks, and its 5 year warranty.
