A few sources close to the matter, cited by Reuters, have some new information regarding the Volkswagen defeat device. According to them, for seven consecutive years, VW used the software on the 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDi and 2.0 TDI engines during the emissions tests in order to pass them.

Three sources familiar with the problem told that VW applied more than just one software version as apparently four engine types have received the defeat device. As a result, this could mean that other cars might be involved in this problem.

According to some industry experts, more than just a few engineers were involved in this maneuver taking into account there are several versions of the defeat device and this required a lot of work.

Arndt Ellinghorst, an analyst at banking advisory firm Evercore ISI., told that the number of employees involved in Dieselgate scandal will have a direct impact on the amount of fines VW will receive.

As you may have read, Volkswagen has already lost 25% of its stock market value and the Dieselgate problem will cost them between 23 to 78 billion euros.
