BMW unveiled today the all new generations of X5 M and X6 M, the most powerful SUV's ever built by the German manufacturer.

This is the second generation of both models, which first debuted in 2009. The new M TwinPower Turbo V8 for the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M is the most powerful engine ever developed by BMW for an all-wheel drive vehicle.

Engine

It is a 4.4 liter V8, capable of delivering 575 hp between 6000 and 6500 rpm, which means 3% more than the older model.

It is enough to complete the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds in conjunction with the new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Peak torque has been boosted by 53 lb-ft which equates to a rise of 10 percent for a total of 553 lb-ft. Even so, there are some major improvements also for the fuel consumption, which was cut by 20 percent while CO2 emissions are likewise down by more than 20 percent, to 258 g/km.

Exterior

On the outside, both M SUV's come with large air intakes and voluminous “kidneys” of the radiator grille, both use the X6 headlights, Long Beach Blue Metallic and Donington Grey Metallic exterior colours, side gills with a model badge and Air Breathers, signature M exterior mirrors in twin-stalk style, a typically M four-tailpipe exhaust system and a rear spoiler (for the BMW X6 M).

The visual package is rounded by standard M-specific, forged 21-inch M light-alloy wheels.
