BMW prepares a new strategy for the US market. The Munchen-based manufacturer will rely on diesel models to reduce the average CO2 emission of its range. A slideshow, leaked during a North American meeting, revealed that BMW plans to offer no more than 7 diesel version for its american clients.

The first car to get a new diesel is the new generation 3 Series, scheduled to go on gasoline in January 2013. We can expect to see a four cylinder 2.0 liter engine, capable of 184 or 204 hp. Same treatment for the 3 Series Touring, but a little bit late, most probably in the summer.

BMW will satisfy even the 5 Series owners with a diesel engine, most probably a six cylinder of 3.0 litres.

The leaked presentation also talks about an X5 xDrive35d, a version that is already on the US market. This means that BMW was referring to the future generation of the SUV, scheduled to be launched at the end of next year.

As for the 7-Series diesel, it is slated for early 2014. It will apparently be joined by an X3 diesel which will go on sale at the same time.
