BAC MONO - single seat supercar

It looks like the Ariel Atom has a new competitor. It is called the BAC MONO, as a reference to its single seat configuration, and it was designed and created by Cheshire-born brothers Neill and Ian Briggs who have 15 years of experience in the motor industry and who wanted to bring Formula 1 handling and performance levels to the public road.

With power provided by a longitudinally mounted normally-aspirated 2.3-litre Cosworth engine, the BAC MONO sends 280 bhp to the wheels via an electronically-controlled, paddle-shift, six-speed sequential Hewland transmission. This street legal monopost has a better power to weight ratio than a Bugatti Veyron (520 bhp per ton), sprints from nought to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds (0 to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds) and is capable of reaching a top speed of 170 mph.

The vihicle is built from carbon fibre, has a tubular steel safety cell, is equipped with aero profiled pushrod suspension, a limited slip differential, brakes from AP Racing and OZ Racing alloys wrapped in street legal track tyres from Kumho.  

 

The BAC MONO's seat which secures the driver with a six point racing harness features a fully adjustable pedal box and steering column and has a secure locker in which the helmet and the steering wheel can be stored.

Ian Briggs said "MONO is the culmination of a 12-year dream for us – the car we wanted to own but nobody else made."

Neill Briggs added: "All cars are built to order on a first-come, first-served basis and our flexible production facility has the capacity to manufacture between 50 and 100 vehicles per year – or more if demand requires. All I can currently say is, the early response has been extremely encouraging."

The BAC MONO price for UK starts at 79,950 GBP including taxes.
