Audi and Porsche have teamed up in order to develop a new family of turbocharged V6 and V8 engines. According to our colleagues from Autocar, the new engines are codenamed KoVoMo (Konzern Vee Otto Motoren) and will use a gas-driven turbocharger.
Eventually, the German engineers will equip the units with an electric turbocharger in order to eliminate the turbo-lag. The cylinder of those engines will have 500 cc and will have a 90 degrees arrangement.
As a result, the V6 will have a displacement of 3.0 liter, while the V8 will be a 4.0 liter engine. More than that, the engines will be scalable and Audi will continue to deliver a 2.5 liter V6 unit that uses the Atkinson-cycle combustion process.
If everything is OK, these engines will also be used in a variety of models including those made by Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche and Volkswagen.
