Audi is celebrating the production of the 3 millionth A3 model since the first generation of the compact premium car was borne. The milestone car is a white A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI quattro. This success can be explained by the fact that Audi A3 is seled in 117 countries. 

Only in 2012, the Ingolstadt factory builds 152.993 units of Audi A3 while the third generation of the compact model was a best-seller in its segment. 

"With the Audi A3, we have created a new brand segment – we have been setting standards in the compact class with innovative technology and first-class quality for 17 years now," said Dr. Frank Dreves, Board of Management Member for Production at the German automaker.

The first generation of the Audi A3 was sold in 913.000 units and the second gen added nearly 2 million cars. The third generation was launched in fall 2012 and will be the first that adds a sedan version and a plug-in hybrid one.
