Unveiled this spring, during the 2015 New York Auto Show, BMW`s first hybrid X5 is now available to order in the US. The new BMW X5 xDrive40e will have a starting price of $63,095, which includes a $995 fee for destination and handling. This makes the hybrid X5 more expensive than the $57,700 xDrive35d version, but still cheaper than the $70,100 xDrive50i.
 
The BMW X5 xDrive40e uses a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol unit that can deliver 245 horsepower and 350 Nm peak of torque. The combustion engine is helped by an electric one that was integrated in the transmission. The electric motor can deliver 113 HP and 250 Nm. As a result, the plug-in hybrid model car deliver 313 HP and 450 Nm peak of torque.
 
Under these conditions, the BMW X5 xDrive40e can run from stand still to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is clocked at 210 km/h (130 mph). In the electric mode, the range goes up to 31 kilometers (19 miles) with a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). The fuel consumption declared by BMW is around 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers (71 mpg) with CO2 emissions of 77 grams per kilometer.
