After three years of hard work and a 11 billion USD investment programme, the new XC90 is finally here. The Swedish SUV was unveiled in Stockholm, ahead of its public debut during this October Paris Motor Show.
 
2015 Volvo XC90 is the first Volvo product based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) technology. this means it uses a platform that we will see in the future on other Volvo models. 
 
Along with a new platform, the XC90 also benchmarks a new design language, set to be used in the future. Its main attraction will be the T shapped daytime running lights, symbolising Thor`s hammer. Also the larger bonnet with its new topography, the beltline and the sharpened shoulders connecting with the distinctive new rear lights are other important design signatures that will be mirrored across the range.
 
Inside the cabin, XC90 combines materials such as soft leather and wood with handcrafted details, including a gear lever made of crystal glass from Orrefors, the famous Swedish glassmaker, and diamond-cut controls for the start/stop button and volume control.
 
Speaking about volume, we must know that Volvo joined forces with Bowers & Wilkins for developing a special sound system. It features a 1,400 Watt Class D amplifier and 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers, inserted inside body structure.
 
According to Volvo, inside the new XC90 there will be room for seven passengers. The second row will be sliding to create more space for the third row passengers, who can be as tall as 170 cm.
 
Dubbed as the “the most powerful and efficient car of the segment”, the new XC90 will offer two diesel engines, a D4 and a D5. First will offer 225 hp, 470 Nm, best in class fuel consumption of around 6l/100 km, while the entry-level will guarantee 190 hp and 400 Nm. The average fuel consumption will be around 5 liter/100 km.
 
The petrol versions will be a powerful T6 and a modest but also juicy T5. The T6 will use a four cylinder petrol, delivering 320 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The T5 is already popular within the range and will deliver 254 hp and 320 Nm.
 
Top of the range will be the T8 Twin Engine hybrid, which combines four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, offering 400 hp and just 60 g/km of CO2.
