Expected to make its official debut in two weeks, the all new Volvo XC90 is the first Volvo car built on the Scalable Product Architecture. It is the modular chassis built by Volvo, capable of supporting different cars.
It`s development lasted 4 years and its part of the 11 billion investment plan. The new SPA platform offers more freedom for designers also ensuring a compact and safer passenger cell.
According to Volvo, inside the new XC90 there will be room for seven passengers. The second row will be sliding to create more space for the third row passengers, who can be as tall as 170 cm.
The new SPA platform can support electrification and a new range of engines. The new XC90 offers Drive-E engine options but will also include the top-of-the-range ‘Twin Engine’ hybrid version, that combines a two-litre, four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor: the result is 400 horsepower with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of around 60 g/km.
