Volvo decided to officially present the 2013 V40, as if we hadn't already seen the photos and the video with their new premium hatchback.

The car is not a big surprise to anyone anymore, but thanks to Volvo's official statement we now have an idea of what to expect from this model in terms of motorisation.

Volvo says the 2013 V40 will be available with everything in the company's arsenal, from their first diesel engine which has CO2 emission levels of just 94 grams per Km to their turbocharged T5 petrol unit producing 254 HP and enabling 0 to 62 mph acceleration times of 6.7 seconds.

All the engine versions will feature start-stop technology and braking energy regeneration no matter whether they are fitted with a manual or automatic gearbox.

Designed to take on rivals such as the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3, the 2013 Volvo V40 "is the first new model that is fully developed according to our human-centric, Designed Around You strategy. Charged with an outstandingset of high-tech features it definitely will give our toughest competitors a headache" - Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation.

Featuring a modern and expressive Scandinavian look and feel, the new V40 promises class-leading driving dynamics thanks to its chassis that was designed to give the car agility and a connected experience.

Stefan Jacoby also explained that "Thanks to input from customers all over the world our most compact V-range model features an outstanding blend of design, safety and versatility. The car is loaded with features that buyers of modern luxury cars want,"

Some of the safety features will include Volvo's Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, the world's-first pedestrian airbag, Lane Keeping Aid with haptic auto steering plus the Park Assist Pilot that makes parallel parking easy.

The Swedish company plans to sell 90,000 units per year of the new Volvo 40, with 85 percent of total volume going to customers in Europe.
