2013 STR Viper Unveiled in New York

Chrysler has officially unveiled the 2013 SRT Viper, the vehicle which will most probably steal this year's New York Auto Show.

Looking more aggressive but also more refined than the previous version the new model incorporates all the hallmark Viper characteristics in terms of design, and when we say than we think of features like the double-bubble roof and the side exhaust which are combined with the elements like the bi-xenon headlights, the new bonnet with three air scoops, and the rear section which now has LED taillights surrounded by carbon fiber, a carbon fiber diffuser and a massive spoiler.

On the inside the 2013 SRT Viper is nothing like the old model, as this time we are talking about quality materials and advanced technology with some of the most important elements including the red leather Sabelet sports seats, the digital instrument cluster, the 8.4-inch display part of the Uconnect infotainment system and the Harman Kardon premium sound system.

The engine powering the 2013 Viper is a 8.4-litre V10 featuring lightweight composite high-flow intake manifold, high-strength forged pistons, sodium-filled exhaust valves, analuminum flywheel and new catalysts which produces a total of 640 HP and 600 lb-ft (812.6 Nm) of torque. The engine spins the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited slip-differential, while in terms of performance the actual figures were not published yet.

Apart from the fact that the new Viper is with 40 HP and 40 lb-ft more potent than the old version, this latest model is also lighter, by around 100 lbs (45 Kg), due to the fact that many of its body components are made from carbon, aluminum or even plastic, while its tubular steel space frame has a magnesium cowl.    

The 2013 SRT Viper is also 50 percent stiffer while its drag coefficient is now lower at 0.364. 

The new American supercar is available in two trim levels, as the regular SRT Viper or the SRT Viper GTS, with some of the elements that differentiate the two being the leather wrapped dashboard, the split six-spoke forged-aluminum “Venom” rims and the two-mode active suspension featuring Bilstein DampTronic Select shock absorbers.

The standard version will be available with an optional SRT Track Pack which will add a 4-mode traction and stability control system, special Brembo brakes and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
