Opel teased today his future Astra cabriolet. The model will abandon the Astra title, and adopt a new name: Cascada. The word, derived from the Spanish ”waterfall”, intends to position the convertible as a standalone model, between the Astra and Insignia.
Measuring 4.7 meter long, thats even more than an Audi A5 Cabrio, the new Cascada will feature a soft-top, functional at speeds up to 50 km/h. The four passengers will enjoy top materials and an enriched equipment list.
Sharing the platform with the regular Astra, the new Cascada will also feature the front suspension of his elder brother, the Insignia OPC. On the rear axle, Opel will remain dedicated to the Watt link susspension.
The new Cascada is expected to be unveiled next year at the Geneva Motor Show in march. The sales will begin shortly after in Europe and United Kingdom, where the Cascada will be sold as a Vauxhall. For the United States, Opel will sell Cascada under the Buick logo.
