Opel has expanded the Astra model family with a new body style - a 'sporty and stylish' four-door sedan.
Described as featuring 'balanced proportions and typical Astra strenghts' the 2013 Opel Astra sedan will become available for purchase in Germany in June, which customers initially able to choose between seven engines out of which four will be petrols and will range from 100 HP to 180 HP and three will be diesels with outputs between 95 HP and 130 HP.
Among these seven there are also the 1.7 CDTI ecoFLEX units which can deliver either 110 HP (81 kW) or 130 HP (96 kW), are backed by Start/Stop technology and other efficiency enhancing features, and which can deliver consumption figures as low as 3.7 litres per 100 Km and CO2 emission levels of 99 g/Km.
In 2013 the automaker will also add a 1.6-litre SIDI ECOTEC four-cylinder gasoline engine with turbocharging and spark ignition direct injection to the lineup, for which the output level is unknown at this point.
The 2013 Opel Astra sedan measures 4,658 mm in length, 1,814 mm in width and 1,476 mm in height, has a wheelbase of 2,685 mm and its truck provides 90 litres worth of spaces more than the 5-door variant, meaning a total of 460-litres worth of volume, or 1,010 litres with the rear bench flat.
Opel CEO, Karl-Friedrich Stracke said that "Our new Astra notchback is an important part of our product offensive and plays a key role in our growth strategy. It is a stylish, more affordable alternative to many four-door sedans in the mid-size segment, therefore we see significant conquest potential in Western Europe. It will also play a leading role in substantially increasing our market share in key growth markets such as Russia and Turkey, where there is strong customerdemand for compact cars with a separate luggage compartment."
