2013 Opel Adam Revealed

Opel and its UK counterpart, Vauxhall have unveiled the new urban-chic small car, the Adam.

This new addition to the range which was named after the company's founder, Adam Opel, will compete against the Fiat 500 in the 'fashion-led A-sector' with some of the highlights in terms of appearance for this new model, being the 'floating' roof that enables the use of two-tone colour schemes, the wing shaped chrome grille bar, the blade shape in the lower doors, the crisp line around the door handles and the LED daytime running lights.

All these features are combined in a "retro-based design with a fresh and bold look" which according to Opel, "will appeal to open-minded individuals who want to defy convention with a car that's distinctive and striking".  

The car company also says that 'classy, sophisticated and glamorous' Opel Adam can be individualized in numerous ways (over one million different combinations), claiming that "It's very unlikely that you'll find two identical ADAMs out there."

At launch the 2013 Opel Adam will be available in three trims JAM (fashionable/colourful), GLAM (elegant/sophisticated) and SLAM (racy/sporty) while the engine range will comprise from three efficient ecoFLEXfour-cylinder petrol engines that include a 1.2-litre 70PS unit and two 1.4-litre engine rated at either 87PS or 100PS.

All units will be available with optional Start.Stop technology and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of size the 2013 Opel Adam measures 3.7 metres in length and 1.72 metres in width, with front and rear tracks of 1485 and 1478mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2311mm.

Some of the amenities and gadgets found inside the new Adam include an upscale infotainment system with a 7-inch full colour touch screen, designed to support new media sources and also provide connectivity for smartphones with Android or AppleiOS software, an optional heated steering wheel, clock-style instruments with chrome bezels and an Advanced Park Assist II system also as an option.
