After it was initially unveiled on its home market towards the end of last year, Hyundai has now brought the 2013 Genesis Coupe to the States for its North American debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

This mid-life facelift brought the new Genesis Coupe up to date with the rest of the range in terms of design, and also made it more competitive through the additional powertrain and transmission choices.

And speaking of engine choices these include the 4-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged unit on the range opening variant which now produces 274 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel (260 HP and 260 lb-ft on regular fuel) due to its revised turbocharger and larger intercooler, plus the updated 3.8-litre Lambda V6 which has been enhanced with direct injection technology.

The 3.8-litre V6 produces 42 HP and 29 lb-ft of torque more than before, with the output level reaching 348 HP at 6,400 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 5,300 rpm.

Performance figures for the 2.0-litre version are still unknown, but here is what the V6 variant can do when the acceleration pedal is pressed: it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds and can reach a top speed of 149 mph (electronically limited).

Transmission choices for both versions include a 6-speed manual as standard and an optional 8-speed automatic that shifts through steering wheel mounted paddles.

In terms of efficiency Hyundai claims that the 8-speed automatic versions 2013 Genesis Coupe will return 20 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway when we are talking abut the 2.0-litre Turbo model, and 18 mpg/28 mpg in the V6 variant.

The manual 2.0-litre version is rated at 21 mpg/30 mpg while the manual V6 will return 18 mpg/27mpg.
