2013 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi

As the 2012 Detroit Auto Show kicks off the Blue Oval has revealed photos and details with their new generation Ford Fusion, "the first sedan to offer gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, each with expected top fuel economy".

The 2013 Ford Fusion comes with the automaker's latest technologies, such as the Lane Keeping System, adaptive cruise control, active park assist and MyFord Touch, will feature auto start stop along with automatic and manual transmission choices.

This latest Fusion model which points at the new-generation Mondeo for the world markets, is going to be offered under the S, SE and Titanium equipment grades, with the regular version extracting power from either a 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine or a 2.0-litre EcoBoost unit paired with paddle shifters and a 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox. The 1.6-litre model will deliver best in class economy figures of 26 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.  

The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid comes with an all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine and all-new lithium-ion batteries which will enable it to deliver best-in-class economy figures of 47 mpg in the city driving and 44 mpg on the highway.  The Fusion Hybrid can cruise at speeds of up to 62 mpg under electric-only power, and its economy figures outperform the ones on the 2012 Camry Hybrid ad the 2011 Sonata Hybrid by 4 mpg/5 mpg and 12 mpg/4mpg respectively.

As for the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, in this case we are talking about a vehicle anticipated to deliver more than 100 MPGe (8 MPGe more than the Chevrolet Volt and 13 MPGe more than the projected efficiency of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid). However the American car maker is yet to release detailed information about the performance figures of the plug-in hybrid version.

The 2013 Ford Fusion will be assembled at the Hermosillo plant in Mexico and will hit the showrooms in North America and South America later this year. The 2013 Ford Mondeo will arrive on the Asian and European markets next year.
