The German automaker has just unveiled the third generation Beetle, a car which will be on display at this year's Shanghai and New York Auto Shows and which will go on sale across the US in 2011 (2012 for the rest of the world's markets).

The North American market will get a 2.0-litre TDI developing 140 HP through a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual clutch automatic plus a 2.0-litre TSI capable of producing 200 HP which will be offered with either a six-speed manual or a six speed DSG. Customers in the U.S. will also get a second gasoline plant, comprising of a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder plant which packs 170 HP.

On the rest of the world's markets the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will use either a 105 HP 1.2-litre TSI, a 160 HP 1.4-litre TSI or a 200 HP 2.0-litre TSI. The diesel range will offer two 1.6-litre TDIs (105 HP or 140 HP).
