2012 Skoda Citigo City Car

Skoda has unveiled its 6th production model, the Citigo, a car which as you might suspect, is based on the recently introduced Volkswagen up!, showcased at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Scheduled to go on sale on the automaker's home market towards the end of 2011, and the rest of Europe from summer 2012, the Skoda Citigo is a small city car measuring 3.56 metres length, 1.65 metres width and 1.48 metres height which will be available in both 3-door and 5-door body styles.

Its boot volume is 251 litres, or 951 litres with the rear seats folded, and its interior was styled in order to offer a high level of quality along with numerous storage compartments, cup holders and multimedia systems.

The 2012 Skoda Citigo city car will initially be offered with two engine options which are two new, 3-cylinder

1.0-litre petrols rated at 60 PS (44 kW) and 75 PS (55 kW) respectively, both linked to 5-speed manual transmissions.

The 60 PS engine will requires 4.7-litres of fuel per 100 Km (62.8 mpg / UK rating) and emits 105 grammes of CO2 per Km, while the 75 PS version returns 4.7-litres per 100 Km (60.1 mpg / UK rating)and has CO2 levels of 108 grammes per Km.

According to Skoda, the 60 PS engine will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 13.9 seconds and will enable a top speed of 99 mph while the 75 PS version takes 12.7 seconds to get to 62 mph and can go as fast as 106 mph.

Skoda's Board Chairman, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland said that "The demand for small cars with low fuel consumption, at a favourable price and with reasonable operating costs, is growing," "SKODA's new small vehicle is a reaction to this trend. We are entering new ground and the Citigo will attract prospects mainly in our European markets."

The Skoda Citigo price was not announced yet.
