Daimler has officially unveiled the 2012 Mercedes B Class ahead of its public premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Based on a new front wheel drive platform and featuring a new design and new power-trains, the 2012 Mercedes B Class is "substantially more agile and efficient, but as comfortable and spacious as ever".
The new platform which will also be used on the new A Class, is named the MFA (Modular Front Architecture) and is directly tied to the fact that the new B Class offers more interior space, especially in the knee and leg area.
Powering choices for the new B Class will include a range opening 1.6-litre turbo petrol producing 122 HP and a second petrol with the same capacity, but developing 156 HP. Daimler will also offer two 1.8-litre CDI diesels rated at 109 HP and 136 HP respectively, and all engines will transfer power to the road via a 7G-DCT dual clutch 7-speed transmission mated with Start Stop technology.
The German manufacturer has also developed a sport package for the 2012 Mercedes B Class and this includes a stiffer suspension, a center of gravity lowered by 20 mm and the Direct-Steer system.
In terms of technology the new B Class received a radar based collision warning system as standard, adaptive headlights, and other assistance systems like Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist and Active Parking Assist.
The 2012 Mercedes B Class price was not announced yet, but the new model will go on sale in Europe in November.
