For the first time in its history, BMW 1 Series receives the xDrive all-wheel drive system. Available only for the 120d and M135i versions, the system is going to offer a lot more traction in the rainy or cold seasons across Europe.
The system is capable of distributing drive torque variably between the front and the rear axle. When driving on normal conditions, the all-wheel drive system send 60% of the torque to the rear wheels, ensuring the behaviour of a classic rear-wheel drive BMW.
The 120d xDrive, powered by 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel of 184 hp, manages to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds, topping a speed of 225 km/h. BMW quotes an average fuel consumption of 4.7 and a CO2 emission of 123 g/km.
The hotter M135i with the xDrive AWD system and the 6-cylinder 3.0-liter 315 hp engine is capable of performing the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds thanks to the new all-wheel drive system.
The first BMW 1-Series xDrive will be found next week in Paris Motor Show along the BMW Concept Active Tourer.
