The new edition model reveals its ambitions atfirst glance. It features an exclusive matt grey finish combined with ablack tridion cell as standard. 15 inch alloy wheels with six spokesare also exclusive to the special model, as are yellow mirror caps thatbear the edition lettering and provide a dynamic contrast. Fog lightsunderline the sporty character and complement the distinctive exteriorlook.

 

The interior also boasts sporty esprit and adiscerning style. An exclusive combination of fabric and leather withyellow accents and trim parts gleaming in yellow and matt chromedetermine the ambience. The yellow accent colour is also found in thedouble stitching of the top quality nappa leather seats – the sameleather used in premium Mercedes-Benz models. The gear knob and thethree spoke sports steering wheel with steering wheel gearshift andyellow stitching are also covered with leather. They are exclusive tothe special spring edition of the smart fortwo and subtly emphasise itssportiness. The doors, kneepad and dashboard have a leather effect. Thestandard equipment moreover includes exclusive floor mats featuring theedition logo and the MP3-compatible CD radio smart radio 9. The new smart fortwo edition greystyle is basedon the passion coupé or the passion cabrio with a petrol engine and achoice of a 52 kW (71 hp) engine with micro hybrid drive technology or a 62 kW(84 hp) engine. Among other features the passion equipment line comeswith the softouch automatic gear programme, electric windows, airconditioning with automatic temperature control, and a panoramic roofwith sunblind.

 

The new special model also demonstrates thesmart fortwo style when it comes to environmental friendliness. Notonly does it fulfil the strict exhaust gas standard EU 5, the 52 kWvariant is moreover fitted with micro hybrid drive (mhd) technology asstandard. This clever and comfortable automatic start/stop system shutsdown the engine as soon as the driver brakes and the vehicle's speedfalls below 8 km/h – for example when approaching traffic lights. Theengine starts again in the fraction of a second when the driverreleases the brake pedal. The system is fully automatic – the driverdoes not need to do anything. In urban traffic with frequent stop andgo situations, mhd enables fuel savings of almost 20 percent.
